Leavin’ on a Jet Plane

In Friday’s post I eluded to another trip in the works. First I want to thank our friends for coming to celebrate the hubs’ 30th birthday dinner. It was nice to catch up with everyone šŸ™‚

Back to the travel announcement…Over the summer we visited the hub’s bucket list place, Sydney, and now it’s my turn (read my Travel Bucket List). I have dreamed of going to Europe for a long time. I love the idea of walking along the busy streets, seeing the different architectural styles, and standing on the site of so many history placed with a whole lot of history to share (nerd alert!).

I had a hard time narrowing down the Europe list, but we aren’t millionaire so for now it is Paris and London. We will spend roughly four days in each city. It will be a lot to cram in, but it’s the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m so excited to share this adventure with the hubs.

PARIS

Weather
From my research it appears the weather will be in the 40s and 50s, mild and dry. Seems like almost every trip taken this year involves cool or cold weather. I’m not complaining, I love fall and winter fashion.

Where We Are Staying
Hilton Paris Opera

What We’ll Do
So much to see and so little time šŸ™ We will definitely see the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. Probably won’t spend the money to go up in either, but these are iconic places not to be missed.

We will take a day to venture out of the city to visit Palace of Versailles. This was a must for me. I believe it will take most of the day to travel and see all of the historic buildings and grounds, but hopefully a day well spent.

Others on the list are Grand Palais, Musee de l’Armee, Notre Dame, and Luxembourg Gardens.

LONDON

Weather
The temperatures appear to be similar to Paris, but October looks to be rainy so we will definitely need to pack accordingly.

Where We Are Staying
Since there isn’t a language barrier here we decided to live like a local and get an airbnb. We had such a good experience in Sydney we wanted to try it again. We have booked a place near the London Eye and other sightseeing spots, but it is also convenient for transportation because it’s near the Waterloo Station.

London Eye (because we’re staying next to it lol), Tower of London, Kensington Palace, Westminster Abbey. We will most likely visit Hyde Park (we visited Sydney’s Hyde Park) and a few museums related to law enforcement and military.

I’m very excited and ready to get there. As always, follow along on SnapChat (@r8d6g) to see our adventures.

Until next post…xoxo Becca

P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way SYDNEY

That’s right mates (in my very best Australian accent) we’re going to Sydney! In less than a month the hubs and I will make the 17+ hour flight to Sydney. Why? Because the hubs has always wanted to go and we are at a point in our life where we can.

Weather
June is their winter so it will be a lovely break from the Texas heat. I have read that Sydney’s winters are pretty mild with daytime temperatures around 60-70 degrees. I imagine with all the walking we’ll be doing there will only be tennis shoes in my suitcase and items that I’m able to dress in layers.

Where We Are Staying
It seems everything in Sydney is expensive. The hubs found an Airbnb just west of the Sydney Harbour in Balmain, a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney. It’s a newly renovated one bedroom suite with its own private deck and entrance. It has high ratings and positive feedback from previous guests. The hosts own and operate a cocktail bar in the area. I’m looking forward to meeting them.

What We’ll Do
When we first started thinking about visiting Sydney I told the hubs I wanted to hold a koala. They just seem so fluffy! The hubs booked a visit to the Featherdale Wildlife Park so I could touch a koala (they don’t allow you to hold them). I’m so excited!

While we are there the city will be celebrating Vivid Sydney, a 23-day festival of light, music and ideas. Vivid Light transforms Sydney into a wonderland of ‘light art’ sculptures, innovative light installations and grand-scale projections. (Explanation taken from the Vivid Sydney website.) The light installations are free to enjoy, but we also booked a dinner cruise in the harbor to get a better view.

We would like to walk the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Initially we found the BridgeClimb, but after reading more about it it seemed like a waste of money (anywhere from $158-$373 per adult) and for safety reasons you cannot take your cell phone or camera with you. Your ticket price includes 1 photo, but you can purchase additional photos after the climb. mmmhmmm I’ll walk my behind across the bridge for free! Thank you very much.

West of Sydney is an area called the Blue Mountains (home to the Three Sisters sandstone rock formation). There is also a privately owned tourist attraction called Scenic World. The park offers several options for viewing the famous mountain area; skyway, walkway, cableway, and railway. Each seem pretty fun so we will make the 2 hour drive west for a day. Read as the hubs will drive…on the wrong side of the car and the wrong side of the road. Pray for us! šŸ˜›

There are a lot of other sites and museums we have on our list to explore. The countdown is on, everything is booked, and we’re wheels up on June 9!

Until next post…xoxo Becca
