Friday Favorites: The Crown

Hi and welcome back! Who doesn’t love binge watching TV shows? I am not normally the person to sit and watch TV, but when I find a good show I can’t stop. First it was Blue Bloods, then The Blacklist, Downton Abbey, now The Crown on Netflix. Too bad I blew through the first season already!

Historical

I’m kind of a nerd so anything that combines historical information with a good drama set in Britain and centered around the British monarch is a win in my book. From what I can tell, a lot of The Crown is pretty historically accurate. Maybe not all the family drama can be confirmed, but characteristics, settings, the time line do coincide with Queen Elizabeth’s reign. I have learned a lot too. Different parts of the story have prompted me to look things up and learn more. For example, Price Philip changing his name and renounced his Greek and Danish royal status, the Great Smog of 1952, and the resulting Clean Air Act of 1956.

Casting Call Perfection

Has anyone noticed the uncanny resemblance the cast have with the real life monarchy? John Lithgow as Winston Churchill…good call! The actor playing Price Philip is also remarkably close.

Crown Worthy Costume Design

I also love the costumes. It is easy to tell a lot of research went into the design. I especially love Princess Margaret’s fashion-forward wardrobe. I read somewhere the Queen’s coronation gown was a replica on loan from Swarovski. Talk about a lifesaver for the costume designer and team.

If you are looking for a new show to binge watch and find British history interesting I would give it a try. What are you favorite shows? Several friends have told me This Is Us and New Girl are must sees.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Until next post…xoxo Becca
