I find a lot of fashion bloggers share mostly casual wear or outfits that cannot be worn Monday-Friday. Because of this I want to start sharing work wear posts occasionally. Finding pieces that are reasonably priced (with an occasional high end/designer item) and versatile are my focus, because I understand we’re not all millionaires. Additionally, if an item I wear is sold out or old I will always link similar items for you to check out.

As a young professional I understand the importance of dressing for the job I want, not the one I have. Since I work in higher education there is more of a relaxed atmosphere and wearing a university polo and dress pants or khakis is acceptable and at some events required. However, I try to stay away from that “uniform” as much as possible and jazz things up with classy, polished, and professional looks. Women have the upper hand because we have the ability to style outfits and aren’t stuck with a suit and tie. Sorry guys! No matter where you work, I hope you enjoy these outfit inspirations or find a closet must have item (or two).

The Look

Today’s outfit combines a lot of my favorites; pencil skirt, pointed toe pumps, and a tote.

Pencil skirts done right are the epitome of classic work wear and should be a staple in your wardrobe. Plus, some can easily be transitioned for after work.  I have found them in a ton of great fabrics, patterns, and colors (if your professional environment allows). Although, I would stay away from knit or spandex pencil skirts. They’re just not office appropriate.

I have a personal love of pointed toe pumps and these are a great way to elongate the legs for the appearance of a taller frame and for someone short like me, supply an extra few inches.

My favorite type of handbag is a tote. It’s especially nice for work because I can quickly drop a notepad, folder, and/or planner in it and head to my meeting.

Special shout out to my best friend for the beautiful Nadri earrings for my birthday. I try to wear understated jewelry, unless the outfit just calls for a statement piece!
