4th Trimester

Lexi & Lady | Newborn

On August 15 we welcomed Baby G into the world! He was 1 week past his due date and stubborn to enter the world. Many bloggers share their birth story and I thought I might too, but turns out most of it was a blur and nothing about it was textbook. The important part is Baby G made his arrival safely and now we get to enjoy everything about him.

He is the spitting image of his father and has the best hair for a mohawk! See the cuteness below šŸ™‚ Every nurse commented on how much hair he had and that blond babies rarely have that much hair. I think he’s pretty darn cute! Honestly, I could share all 70 newborn photos with you, but I won’t!

Lexi & Lady | Baby G

What’s the 4th trimester? Yeah I hadn’t heard of it until he was born. Turns out it starts at birth and goes until the baby is 3 months old…which happens to be today! It’s like I planned this post šŸ˜‰ haha

Sooooo, “how’s it going” you ask? Parenthood is equal parts loving/rewarding and challenging. Before even leaving the hospital we were learning alongside him and on the fly. Luckily the nurses at the hospital we delivered at are amazing and gave us a lot of information and support. While generally he is a very happy, easy going baby there were many nights of endless fussiness that included screaming and arching in pain. It took us awhile to learn he had a dairy sensitivity (he was negative for a dairy allergy) which was resolved within a few days of me cutting dairy from my diet. I had been dairy free for years before becoming pregnant, but while pregnant ate a ton of dairy! I miss ice cream and other dairy based desserts, but I would rather skip it than him be in pain.

How are the dogs adjusting? Like everyone predicted, Mia is obsessed with him and wants to be his best friend. She is constantly at his side, licking him, hangs out with him during tummy time. She even brings him toys like he’s going to miraculously throw it for her! haha She’s the sweetest. Lexi on the other hand is very standoffish. She’s never mean, she just prefers to provide protection from afar. She’ll occasionally sniff him or lick his hand and then return to her “post” to keep watch.

How was your return to work? His transition to daycare? I spent 12 weeks on maternity leave and I’m so glad I took the full time. I returned to work last week and while it’s bittersweet to leave him at daycare each morning, I have enjoyed the return to a schedule/routine and adult interaction. Who know adult interaction would be something I missed (yes, me, the introvert). He transitioned to daycare pretty easily. As I mentioned, he’s a happy, easy going baby so he’s cool with anyone who is willing to hold him. We were fortunate enough to get into a great facility where a friend works and she checks on him. The hubs and I also co-advise a student organization on campus. One of the members is one of his teachers so that’s also very comforting. He seems happy there. Although…he’s a week in and already caught some germs šŸ™ I feel bad for him because he has congestion and constantly has a crusty nose. Welcome to the next several years of my life right?!

I think that’s about all I have to update you on. Again, I don’t know what this blog will look like going forward, but I will keep it active and you can return to any of my posts in the future. Until next post…xoxo Becca

Third Trimester

Baby G Maternity Shoot | Lexi & Lady Baby G Maternity Shoot | Lexi & Lady

Dress: AmazonĀ  |Ā  His Shirt: Tommy Bahama

Back again with the third trimester update. 4 weeks away from my due date. Granted the third trimester is not over, but I figured I would write an update now before Baby G arrives.

This trimester we have had two baby showers and have another one this weekend. Let me tell you, Baby G is loved and I’m soaking up all that love for him. Makes my heart full!

The hubs and I also did a maternity shoot. I hadn’t planned on doing one since our main goal is to save for baby and continue to pay off debt (thanks Dave Ramsey), but the hubs convinced me I might regret not having photos.

In other news, remember when we took that leap of faith and moved to a tiny apartment? Up until now we have lived comfortably in that space (less than 800 sqft) and had planned to make it work with an infant. God had other plans and thanks to Him a lot of things have aligned for a lot of people and it has allowed us to move into a 3-bedroom apartment later this month. The extra bedroom means Baby G will have a nursery and we’ll finally have a dining room table again. It’s the little things in life lol My only concern now is the actual moving and unpacking since my due date is close to our move date. I know everything will happen as it’s supposed to, but if you could pray Baby G stays put until after we’ve moved that would be fantastic.

I have spent the last few weeks preparing for maternity leave from work and think I am about ready to turn over duties and projects. This transition as been mentally challenging because I don’t know what to expect as a mom and work has driven a large part of my life for so long.

Now onto the usual trimester recap…

Symptoms

I think the biggest change between the second and third trimester is my constant peeing. I feel like if I have two sips of water I am running to the restroom. I had a tiny bladder to begin with, but with Baby G’s growth it’s more noticeable.

I find myself moving slower and getting tired quicker. Some swelling in my feet/ankles, but that’s usually after a hot day where I have been on my feet more than usual.

Food Cravings/Aversions

Cravings…anything sweet! Aversions…well I can finally eat vegetables again without wanting to throw up so that’s positive. I still don’t want to menu plan, grocery shop, or cook and I have a feeling that will continue until the hubs and I get into a parenthood rhythm. We have talked about using Freshly for at least the first month. Unlike other services, Freshly meals come prepared and you just heat them. If you have had any experience with Freshly, please let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Sleep

I still sleep pretty well. I get up to pee a lot, but it doesn’t interrupt my ability to go back to sleep. I have noticed I roll from side to side to get comfortable, but again, it doesn’t impact getting back to sleep.

Bump

The bump is growing by the day. Mia is still obsessed with it, while Lexi has yet to acknowledge that it exists. I believe this is foreshadowing for their future relationships with Baby G. I continue to use Earth Mama Belly Butter for moisture and to relieve itching.

What I miss

Being able to bend over! Some times I forget and lean over like I can actually reach something on the ground. When the bump stops that movement I realize I have to come up with an alternative method or whatever is on the ground will stay there lol

What I am looking forward to

Meeting Baby G of course! It has been fun to feel him move around and now that the hubs can feel it too it makes it even more special. From the very beginning he has been a wiggle worm and continues to be. I am ready for the hubs to hold him. Being pregnant is really special and I’m sad the hubs doesn’t get to experience it in the same way I do. Special experience only moms can understand.

I am not sure when I will blog again. As I shared in my last post, I thought I would have more to talk about and more fashion to share, but in reality I have struggled a lot with clothes as the bump has grown and havenā€™t felt like sharing anything. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and until next post…xoxo Becca
